There had been a lot of innovation since the rock age, which led us to the life we are leading now. All that innovation begins from an idea. Have an idea in mind? Do you have the zeal to innovate something new?
Quark 2010 provides you the stage to showcase the hidden innovative and design skills within you.
This event showcases well designed innovative models/projects (working and/or nonworking) related to any of the following mentioned categories:

  1. Computer Science and Information Systems: Projects based on software applications, applications in real life situations, emerging technologies and innovations from the computing world and fields of information exchange, etc
  2. Electrical and Electronics: Projects based on VLSI systems, developments in semiconductor technology, microcontrollers, image and signal processing etc
  3. Chemical and Mechanical: Projects based on automotive designs, modelling using CAD/CAM, PRO-E and other 3D-Modelling softwares, fluid dynamics etc. Emerging areas of chemical & mechanical engineering like energy crisis, environmental pollution control and innovative industrial applications, etc
  4. Pure Sciences: Projects in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Research and Projected Applications of the Sciences in day to day life
  5. Management : Projects carried out in Finance, Economics, Management, Business Studies, Entrepreneurship etc. Research in subtopics like supply chain management systems, strategic marketing etc

Abstract Submission

  1. Participants should mail their abstracts with the registration number as the subject and preferably in 'doc' or 'PDF' format.
  2. An exhibition of the entries selected on the basis of the abstract submitted under Open Showcase event will be held during QUARK 10. Participants are also required to mention at the beginning of their abstracts if their idea has a prototype / model. A brief idea of how the design could be presented (exhibited) during the exhibition should also be included in the abstracts.
  3. The abstract should be concise and to the point and should not exceed three A4 sheets of text typed with Times New Roman font of size 12 excluding the first sheet containing the title and the last containing the references (if any).
  4. The first sheet should only contain title of the project, team registration number, names of the team members and their respective institutes.
  5. The last sheet, following the abstract, may have a list of references - websites, books, journals and so on which amply support the ideas or solutions implemented/proposed.
  6. The information in the abstract should not be very descriptive or vague. It is recommended that vital aspects of the project that require special focus be mentioned as points.
  7. The selected entries will be informed via e-mail and they would have to send replies confirming their participation within two days failing which they will not be allowed to participate.
  8. Deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to 10/01/10.

General Rules

  1. For screening purposes, a pre-event abstract, in a standard format, has to be submitted. The abstract should be mailed to: open_showcase [at] bits-quark.org
  2. Only the participants who qualify in the screening round based on judging of the abstracts shall be invited to BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus for the final round.
  3. Qualifying participants will have to make a presentation before a panel of judges explaining the salient points of their idea/innovation.
  4. Teams will be given only one hour prior to the competition to set up their model/design at the venue for judging.
  5. A detailed report in support of the design and highlighting the important aspects should also be brought. The report will be considered for judging.
  6. Participants should list their hardware, software and other requirements (if required) needed at the time of competition along with the abstract for the screening round.

Team Specifications

A team should consist maximum of 3 members.

Certification Policy

  1. Certificate of Excellence will be given to all winners.
  2. Certificates of Participation will be given to all teams that are selected after the abstract submission and are present during QUARK 10.

Eligibility

All students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to participate in the event.

Special Note

The decision of the judges shall be treated as final and binding on all. The organizers reserve the rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit. Change in rules, if any will be highlighted on the website and notified to the registered participants.
