Introduction

A Model United Nations conference simulates the real world working of the United Nations Organizations. Through it, we hope to provide the youth of today a chance to discuss global issues and come up with solutions that could change the world in the long run.

 

Event Specifications

Structure of BITSMUN 2010

The General Assembly

The General Assembly will discuss overall policy matters. It aims at giving developing nations an equal voice on the international stage.

The Security Council

The Security Council will debate strategic issues, with focus on international threats of terrorism, nuclear proliferation and territorial disputes.

The Economic and Social Council

The Economic and Social Council will discuss economic policy matters, focussing on international trade and greater synergy between the economies of the world.

The Press Corps

BITSMUN will also consist of a Press Corps which will conduct press conferences, report council progress and publish council-related newsletters for circulation amongst delegates.

 Agenda

General Assembly

  1. Formulating a global framework for the management of transnational water resources.
  2. Developing an effective and just roadmap for the control of carbon emissions in order to combat climate change.

Security Council

  1. Evolving a comprehensive plan to minimise the impact of war material after cessation of hostilities.
  2. Preventing the destruction during war of strategic targets that would result in a large-scale environmental disaster.

Economic and Social Council

  1. Addressing concerns of food security over the use of food crops as bio-fuel.
  2. Developing a robust mechanism for the transfer of low-carbon technology to the developing world.

Eligibility

Participants should be bonafide students of any educational institution, studying in grade VIII or above. (Post-graduate students are also allowed to participate.)

Note: A valid school/college ID card must be produced on arrival at campus.

 

Certification Policy

Certificate of participation will be awarded to all delegates.

Certificate of merit will be awarded to outstanding delegates.
